WordPress 2.01 still bugged with errors
Unfortunately WordPress 2.01 still suffers from some anoying bugs. In order to get my nicer archives up and running I ran into an very annoying error. I tried to get a page saved and it produced this error on screen. The socalled WSOD was immently visible. Not a pretty site to see
Fatal error: Call to undefined method WP_Rewrite::flush_rules() in X:\yoursite.com\root\wordpress\wp-includes\functions-post.php on line 200
Hmmm, not so good… So a search on WordPress Trac for the solution was done. That’s more difficult then I expected. The exact error message wasn’t there at all. So I searched for hopefully related issues. This is what I came up with. A fix in the file ‘functions-post.php’ (resides in your wp-includes folder). Ah yes, important
, this implies only in the full WordPress version.
Remedy
- The new file functions-post.php you can download here.
But, as always, be careful, make a backup of the ‘old’ file first, for instance by renaming it, then use the new file. After, test your functions in WordPress and test your website. All should be in order.
Conclusion
My first feeling is that saving your posts and/or pages goes faster then before. Could be only a feeling. I can’t verify this on hard evidence. But it certainly gives a reassurring feeling nonetheless. In the WordPress Trac changeset #3525 it states the fix has something todo with time-date manipulation by WordPress. I am interested to know how this can relate to my problem? Anyway I considered it a good idea to keep you informed about this. We aren’t out of the bug-valley yet. But I am very much confident it will be fixed by those magnificent people at WordPress.

Interesting twist you’ve done on Nicer Archives. It still needs a little layout out work, with a CLEAR=BOTH div after it so the Tag list doesn’t get squished as it wraps to the right around the Nicer Archives. You’ll have to share how you did this!
If you have fixed how Nicer Archives works, especially with WordPress 2.0, you have an OBLIGATION to share it with the rest of the world, oh, please, oh, please, do you see me begging?? It is a favorite of mine and many others and it has been broken for over a year, barely functionable. We need a good clean version of this code so people can install it simply and easily to their WordPress blogs.
My version has it set as a separate PHP page. You seem to have incorporated into a Page. Do tell us how. (Or real begging will commence!)
And thank you for info on the fix. I haven’t updated my main site to WordPress 2.0 due to many reasons, and losing nicer archives is one more reason, and now that reason is gone. I just have to find the time.
Keep pushing the limits of WordPress. You are setting a prize example of what can be done for all to learn from.
Ahum, I think I misled you a bit because the archives tab on top doesn’t use ‘narchives’. I used the Extended Live Archive plugin instead. I have been working on Narchives for over a week now and needed a rest
. But while you are at it, I still intend to fix ‘Narchives’ for use with WP 2.0 and up.
Certainly I will keep everyone informed. It is an obligation. I have just implemented a ‘behind the scenes’ statistics function to keep an eye on my traffic (hits). Wow
Due to my frequent reading on your site I have managed a hit score in just 3 days from over 3500 hits. Incredible. Ofcourse that means not much but gives an indication on how my ranking is on Google etc. Not bad at all.
The layout matter should be fixed now. Last night I have added a div around the archive section so there isn’t any wrapping from the tags anymore.
Lorelle, thanks again for this ‘red-around the cheeks comment’ from you. Appreciated.
